ASM Failure Analysis Project
Eisenman Camp 2024 - Material Science Investigation
Project Overview
The Challenge
At Eisenman Camp 2024, our team was presented with a real-world engineering failure: a tire fell off a garbage truck while driving, and all the studs holding the tire broke. The tire with the other half of the studs was stolen, leaving us with critical evidence to analyze.
We were given 3 broken studs, 3 slices of the fracture points, an exemplar stud, and samples of different grades of steel to conduct a comprehensive failure analysis.
